Federal Heights packs established neighborhoods, mature landscaping, and the Hyland Hills corridor into a tight footprint — and pest pressure follows the density. ExtermiSafe is a local team that responds fast and treats with care.
Closely-spaced homes with mature trees keep pest activity moving between properties year-round. Hyland Hills and nearby open space sustain rodent and spider populations close to residential blocks. Older construction details create persistent entry points that need ongoing attention.

Federal Heights service calls regularly involve mice, spiders, wasps, ants, and box elder bug invasions in fall.
Mice are one of the most common calls we get in Federal Heights. Older homes and aging apartment buildings throughout the city have gaps in foundations, utility penetrations, and deteriorating weatherstripping that give mice easy entry. Dense residential blocks mean an infestation in one unit or home can quickly spread to neighbors. Once inside, they nest in wall voids and insulation and are active year-round.

Rats thrive in Federal Heights thanks to the city's proximity to commercial corridors along Federal Boulevard and Sheridan, where dumpsters and food waste provide reliable food sources. Aging sewer infrastructure and older alley systems create harborage and travel routes that connect commercial zones to residential blocks. Norway rats burrow under slabs and along fence lines in the tightly packed neighborhoods here. Rat pressure tends to intensify in fall as temperatures drop and they seek warmth in structures.

German cockroaches are a persistent problem in Federal Heights's older multi-family housing and apartment complexes, where shared plumbing walls and aging kitchens give them ideal harborage. They spread rapidly between units through wall voids, under doors, and along pipe chases. Proximity to commercial food establishments along major corridors increases the risk of introduction. A single untreated unit can re-infest an entire building within weeks.

Bed bugs are a growing concern in Federal Heights's dense rental housing stock, where high tenant turnover and shared laundry facilities accelerate spread. Older apartment buildings with multiple units make it easy for bed bugs to migrate through wall voids and electrical conduits. The city's proximity to commercial corridors and transit routes also increases exposure risk. Early detection is critical — infestations in multi-unit buildings require coordinated treatment across affected units.

Ants are a year-round nuisance in Federal Heights, foraging from mature landscaping and overgrown parkways into homes through the smallest cracks in aging foundations and siding. Pavement ants are especially common in the older concrete slabs and sidewalks throughout the city. Dense housing means ant colonies established in one yard quickly extend foraging trails into neighboring properties. Warm summers and irrigated lawns keep ant populations active well into fall.

Carpenter ants are drawn to Federal Heights's mature tree canopy and older wood-frame construction, where moisture-damaged wood in eaves, window frames, and decks provides ideal nesting sites. Homes built in the 1950s–1970s often have wood elements that have experienced decades of moisture cycling, making them particularly vulnerable. Carpenter ants don't eat wood but excavate it, causing structural damage that worsens silently over time. Mature landscaping with dead limbs and wood mulch close to foundations serves as a staging ground for satellite colonies inside homes.

Spiders are abundant in Federal Heights, particularly in older homes with cluttered basements, crawl spaces, and garages that provide undisturbed harborage. The city's mature landscaping and proximity to Hyland Hills open space sustain large insect populations that attract hunting spiders. Common house spiders and wolf spiders regularly enter homes through gaps in aging foundations and window frames. Spider activity peaks in late summer and fall as males wander in search of mates.

Black widow spiders are found throughout Federal Heights in undisturbed areas like basement window wells, utility meter boxes, and the undersides of outdoor furniture and decks. Older homes with cluttered storage areas and crawl spaces are especially prone to harboring black widows. Their venom is medically significant, making prompt identification and treatment important for households with children and pets. We regularly find them in the older residential blocks near Hyland Hills and along the city's alley systems.

Silverfish thrive in the humid basements and crawl spaces common in Federal Heights's older housing stock, where aging plumbing and poor ventilation create the moisture conditions they need. They feed on paper, cardboard, and starchy materials — a problem in homes with stored books, documents, and older wallpaper. Silverfish infestations often go unnoticed for months because they are nocturnal and hide in wall voids and under flooring. Addressing moisture issues is key to long-term control in these older structures.

Yellow jacket wasps are a significant problem in Federal Heights during late summer, when colonies peak and foraging workers become aggressive near food sources. Older homes with gaps in soffits, eaves, and wall voids provide ideal nesting cavities that are difficult to locate and treat. The city's commercial corridors and outdoor dining areas nearby attract foraging yellow jackets into residential yards. Nests inside wall voids can contain thousands of workers and require professional treatment to remove safely.

Box elder bugs invade Federal Heights homes in large numbers each fall, seeking warmth in the walls and attics of older structures as temperatures drop. The city's mature tree canopy includes box elder and maple trees that sustain large local populations through the summer. Older homes with gaps around windows, doors, and utility penetrations offer easy entry points for overwintering aggregations. While not destructive, their sheer numbers and the staining they leave behind make them a major nuisance for Federal Heights homeowners.

Earwigs are common in Federal Heights's densely landscaped yards, where irrigated flower beds, mulch, and ground cover provide the moist, sheltered conditions they prefer. They frequently enter older homes through gaps at the base of doors, foundation cracks, and utility penetrations — especially during hot, dry spells when they seek moisture indoors. Earwigs are often found in basements, bathrooms, and laundry rooms. Their presence in large numbers typically signals a moisture issue that should be addressed alongside treatment.

It depends on the pest, the size of the property, and how far along the problem is — a single wasp nest and a recurring mouse problem are not the same job. We quote it free, in writing, before any work starts, and there is no contract to sign.
Safety is the reason we work Integrated Pest Management first: we find and remove what is attracting the pest, seal the way in, and use the most targeted, lowest-impact product that will actually solve it — instead of blanket-spraying a house. Your technician tells you exactly what was applied and when it is dry.
We come back and re-treat at no extra charge. Our work is warranty-backed, so a pest returning between scheduled visits is our problem to fix, not a new invoice.
No. There is no term contract and no cancellation penalty. Most Federal Heights customers stay on a recurring plan because it keeps pressure off the house year-round, but you can stop any time.
Yes — ExtermiSafe is licensed and insured in Colorado, and we are locally owned and operated rather than a national franchise. The person who answers the phone is the same company that shows up.

Brandan was punctual, helpful, and professional. We did not succeed in finding a nest of Yellowjackets, but if there was a nest close by, Brandan would have found it! I will not hesitate to call him back if I find more dependable evidence of a nest. I have no problem, referring him to others. Cameron-k

Had a great experience with ExtermiSafe Pest Control. Brandon came out to take care of a spider problem we were having and treated around the house to help keep spiders and other pests from making their way inside as the weather starts getting colder. Brandon was professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to explain what he was doing and why. The whole process was easy and straightforward, and I really appreciated how thorough he was. Definitely nice having the peace of mind knowing the house is treated before the colder weather hits. Great service!!! Very thorough!!!
Brandon is awesome at his job. I had him come to a rental home after a furnace technician saw black widow spiders in the crawl space. He was very thorough in inspecting the inside of the house, the yard and the crawl space. He found 6 black widow spiders and 2 active wasp nests. He also identified how they were getting into the crawl space. Brandon was very efficient completing all this in about an hour. And he is very personable and pleasant to work with. Lastly his fees are very reasonable and the billing software that he uses is very easy to use to pay bills. Brandon was a joy to work with throughout the whole process from initial contact to remediation to billing. I highly recommend him
